Corrosion is a problem that directly impacts various industrial sectors. Corrosion tests, such as salt spray testing, are essential to validate the durability of materials in corrosive environments like seawater and salinity. The HVEX Climate Chamber for Accelerated Corrosion Tests stands out as a solution for these processes.

Corrosion is a natural and inevitable phenomenon that affects a wide range of industries, from manufacturing to transportation and infrastructure. The deterioration of metallic materials due to reactions with the environment is a significant issue, especially in environments exposed to corrosion by seawater and salinity, resulting in high maintenance costs, loss of operational efficiency, and potential safety risks.

Corrosion occurs when metals come into contact with corrosive agents such as moisture, seawater, salinity, chemicals, or atmospheric pollutants. This process can lead to structural weakening, equipment failures, and compromised functionality of components.

Corrosion by seawater and salinity is a problem that affects not only maritime processes, such as ships, offshore platforms, and fishing equipment, but also other industries such as energy, construction, and road and rail transportation. These environments are subject to adverse environmental conditions that accelerate the corrosive process, compromising the integrity of materials and equipment.

To mitigate the effects of corrosion, companies invest in specialized tests that simulate real exposure conditions. These tests not only validate the resistance of materials and coatings used but also help identify vulnerable areas and develop more effective protection strategies.

, for instance, simulates extreme conditions of seawater and salinity to ensure the reliability of materials used in industrial applications susceptible to this type of deterioration. This type of test follows these steps:

: Before testing, material samples or components are prepared according to specific standards, including cleaning and application of protective coatings if applicable.

Samples are placed inside a salt spray test chamber. This chamber is designed to create a controlled environment where a saturated saline solution is atomized and nebulized over the test samples.

During the test, samples are exposed to constant salt spray mist, simulating exposure to marine air. The temperature and exposure time can vary depending on test specifications and applicable standards.

Throughout the test, samples are periodically visually inspected for signs of corrosion such as spots, blisters, or loss of gloss. Depending on the test duration, evaluations may occur at specific intervals to determine the progression of corrosion over time.

Upon test completion, samples are evaluated based on criteria defined by test standards or specifications. Results may include corrosion resistance ratings for samples, determining whether they passed or failed established criteria.

In an industrial scenario where reliability and efficiency are crucial, investing in corrosion testing is essential to ensure material integrity and operational safety. The HVEX Climate Chamber offers an advanced solution for replicating extreme seawater and salinity conditions, helping companies across different sectors protect their investments and promote a safer, more sustainable work environment. By understanding and mitigating the effects of corrosion from the outset, organizations strengthen their position in the market and contribute to a safer and more sustainable environment for all.
