Routine Testing Laboratory for Metal Oxide Distribution Surge Arresters up to 36.2 kV

Technical Information

01 Requirement
A physical area of approximately 5.7 m², with a ceiling height of ~2.2 m (plus 0.37 m for the signal pole).
02 Requirement
220 V power supply (low voltage from the source / step-up transformer input), at 50 or 60 Hz; the inverter accepts a supply voltage ranging from 200 to 240 V. The power supply does not respond accurately to voltage variations exceeding 5% of the nominal value or frequency variations exceeding 1 Hz of the nominal frequency; therefore, the connection to the utility grid must always go through the inverter and sine wave filter.
03 Requirement
Proper grounding system: Terminals H0 and Y1 (measurement) must remain permanently grounded and monitored by precision current transformers—disconnecting the ground or a current transformer failure will result in equipment damage.
04 Requirement
Safety zone maintaining a minimum distance of 2.5 meters from any live high-voltage equipment.
05 Requirement
A computer connected to the laboratory network to run the APLICADA software and monitor the tests.

About the Laboratory

The laboratory is a compact, enclosed structure, assembled from aluminum profiles with blue HVEX panels and transparent enclosures, measuring 2.2 m in height (plus 0.37 m for the signal column), 3.31 m in length, and 1.96 m in width. Internally, it is organized into sequential stations connected by a conveyor belt: entry station, test station, laser marking station, and exit stations (pass and fail). The test specimen enters via the conveyor belt, passes under the high-voltage connector for testing, proceeds to the laser marking station, and, finally, is directed to the “pass” bin or ejected to the “fail” bin—all automatically.

    Automatic Validation

    The main benefit is to automatically verify the insulation capacity of the surge arresters, ensuring the safety and quality of the final product and preventing production bottlenecks. Approval/rejection is automatic, with physical separation of products and a real-time counter for approved and rejected quantities. In terms of usability, operation is simplified by a control panel with just a few buttons (on/off, start/stop conveyor, safety reset, and emergency stop) and LED indicators. All test data is saved and can be exported as a report using the APLICADA software, and a graduated column with a ruler allows for quick adjustment of the laser engraver’s height to accommodate different test specimen models (between 125 mm and 310 mm in height).
