TEST LABS

Oil-Cooled Single-Phase Voltage Regulator

A robust, domestically manufactured solution for those who need to adjust voltage continuously, precisely, and safely in testing, laboratories, and industrial applications. Developed by HVEX—the only Brazilian manufacturer of medium- and high-voltage laboratory equipment—the voltage regulator combines oil cooling (which ensures stable operation even under load) with a user-friendly interface, integrated electrical protections, and remote control via a control panel. With voltage regulation from 0 to 220 V, an accuracy of ±2%, efficiency above 98%, and the ability to be customized to meet customer needs, it is ideal for replacing imported solutions with competitive pricing, technical expertise, and local support.

Technical Information

Requirement 01
Single-phase power supply with a 220 VAC input and a frequency between 45 and 65 Hz (the output frequency is determined by the input).
Requirement 02
Proper grounding: The system's grounding cable must be connected to the equipment's grounding terminal before power is applied.
Requirement 03
Before connecting, ensure that the upstream system (source side) is completely de-energized and that the equipment’s voltage is zero; connect the input cables to the phase (L) and neutral (N) terminals labeled INPUT.
Requirement 04
On the load side (downstream), ensure that the circuit is de-energized, grounded, and free of residual voltage—especially for highly capacitive loads—before connecting the output cables to the L and N terminals labeled OUTPUT.
Requirement 05
A space or floor capable of supporting the weight of the equipment (approximately 370 kg) and providing access for handling the top cover and inspection covers during cable installation.

The Equipment

The equipment is a vertical, pedestal-style cabinet mounted on a wooden base for transport. The front upper section houses the control elements: a molded-case circuit breaker, input and output voltage displays, and the push-button panels for increasing and decreasing the voltage. The lower section features the nameplate and information panel, as well as an oil drain at the base. Internally, the upper section houses the input (INPUT) and output (OUTPUT) terminals, identified by phase (L) and neutral (N), accessible through the top cover and inspection covers on the sides and bottom. It comes with an external control panel featuring three controls: an emergency button, a green button (to increase voltage), and a red button (to decrease voltage). It weighs approximately 370 kg.

Benefits and Usability

    Benefits of VARIAC

The main benefit is the continuous and precise adjustment of the output voltage (0 to 220 V) with high efficiency (≥ 98%) and excellent regulation (±2%). Oil cooling and a sealed design ensure durability and thermal stability during operation. In terms of usability, operation is intuitive: LED displays show input and output voltages (and currents) in real time, and adjustments are made simply by pressing the “increase voltage” and “decrease voltage” buttons, available both on the equipment panel and on the remote control panel—the operator monitors the display until the desired voltage is reached. Safety is enhanced by an emergency stop button that shuts down the entire system, blocking all actuators and preventing unauthorized operation, in addition to the molded-case circuit breaker that protects against short circuits.
