Coupling Capacitors for Partial Discharge and RIV Measurements
HVEX coupling solutions interface electrical signals with partial discharge (PD) and radio interference voltage (RIV) measurement systems, according to the selected circuit and configuration. Device selection depends on the monitored equipment, operating voltage, capacitance, insulation, and measurement-instrument interface. Distinct applications: • Capacitive bushings: couplers connected to the measurement or test tap, selected for the bushing, its electrical characteristics, and the monitoring system. • High-voltage testing: high-voltage coupling capacitors integrated into the test circuit for PD or RIV measurements, together with the appropriate quadripole or measuring impedance and instrument. • Equipment monitoring: capacitors for coupling PD signals, typically in motors, generators, and dry-type transformers, with the voltage rating and installation selected for each application. The capacitor is a coupling component in the measurement circuit. Signal acquisition and processing, trend visualization, and reporting are performed by the associated instruments and software when included in the system. The component does not actively regulate voltage or replace the monitoring platform. HVEX offers capacitance and insulation configurations for different requirements. Selection must consider the complete circuit, the frequency range of interest, the component’s own PD and RIV contribution, and the requirements of the test or monitoring procedure.
