Cable Fault Detector

The HVEX cable fault location system combines time-domain reflectometry (TDR), an impulse source and acoustic-magnetic pinpointing to identify and locate faults in power cables, including underground cables and cables installed in conduits. Analysis of reflected pulses estimates the distance to discontinuities and faults, according to the method and configuration used. The partial discharge detection module uses UHF signals. This detection is distinct from apparent charge measurement in accordance with IEC 60270. Measurement according to IEC 60270 requires a separately purchased partial discharge measurement system, also available from HVEX. The system supports investigation of open circuits, short circuits and high-resistance faults. Its touchscreen LCD, data storage and internal battery support field work in power networks, industrial installations, solar farms and wind farms.
