Current and Voltage Transformer Test Set — CT-PT Analyzer

The HVEX Current and Voltage Transformer Test Set is a portable analyzer for testing current transformers (CT) and voltage transformers (VT), in the field or in the laboratory. With a single connection to the secondary winding it performs the resistance, excitation, ratio and polarity tests and automatically calculates the transformer parameters according to the type and class of the winding — P, TPY, M, PR, PX, TPS, TPX and TPZ for CTs and P and M for VTs. Based on the frequency-conversion method, it supplies at most 180 V and 12 A rms and still traces the excitation curve of CTs with knee-point voltages of up to 60 kV, with no need for a reference CT, high-current source or burden box. It measures ratio and phase errors with an accuracy of ±0.5 % and ±5′, allowing field testing of metering CTs up to class 0.2S. Results are stored in the internal memory, printed on the panel mini printer and exported to a USB flash drive for the HVEX report generator, which issues the complete PDF report — with excitation curve, error table and IEEE C57.13 error parallelogram — carrying your company's visual identity. Reference standards: • IEC 60044-1, IEC 60044-2 and IEC 60044-6 (now IEC 61869-2 and IEC 61869-3) • IEEE C57.13 (error parallelogram)

Technical Information

Power supply
220 V AC ± 10 %, 50/60 Hz, with a mains cord rated 10 A or higher; 12 A protection fuse.
Protective earthing
Earth the side terminal of the instrument (4 mm² cable) and one terminal of the CT primary and secondary before the test; the other windings must be left open and disconnected from the network.
Four-terminal connection
CT secondary connected to the Output (S1/S2) and Output Voltage Test (S1/S2) terminals; primary connected to the Induced Voltage Test (P1/P2) terminals. Do not connect or disconnect leads during the test.
Operating environment and reports
Dry location with no explosive atmosphere; in the field, keep out of direct sunlight and keep the ventilation openings clear. For the PDF report: USB flash drive to export the tests and a computer with a browser for the HVEX report generator.

From test to report in minutes

Connect the CT secondary to the output and sensing terminals (four-terminal connection) and the primary to the induced-voltage terminals; enter the nameplate data — ratio, burden, cos φ, class and frequency — and start the test. In a few minutes the test set delivers the resistance at 75 °C, the excitation curve and knee point, ratio, polarity and the ratio and phase errors at rated burden and at the lower-limit burden. Print the simple record on the mini printer and export the test (.xml) to a USB flash drive. The HVEX report generator, which runs in the browser with no installation, converts the files into a complete PDF report with the test identification, the configured parameters, the excitation table and curve, the error table and the IEEE C57.13 error parallelogram — with your company logo and the person responsible for the test.

Benefits and Usability

  • HVEX | One connection, every test
    One connection, every test

Resistance, excitation, ratio, polarity and errors of the CT with the same connection and a single touch; only the burden test uses a different connection. The screen shows the wiring diagram of each test.

  • HVEX | No reference CT, high-current source or burden box
No reference CT, high-current source or burden box

The frequency-conversion method traces the excitation curve with at most 180 V and 12 A rms, testing CTs with knee-point voltages of up to 60 kV without exposing the secondary to dangerous voltages.

  • HVEX | Parameters calculated automatically
    Parameters calculated automatically

Knee point, ALF, FS, Ts, Kr, Lu, Kssc, 5 % and 10 % error curves and ratio and phase errors from 1 to 120 % of In — selected automatically according to the winding class (P, TPY, M, PR, PX, TPS, TPX, TPZ).

  • HVEX | On-site and PDF report

Built-in mini printer for the immediate record in the field, non-volatile internal memory and export to a USB flash drive for the HVEX report generator, which issues the PDF with excitation curve, error table and IEEE C57.13 parallelogram.

CT-PT Analyzer highlights

A single portable instrument replaces the reference CT, high-current source, burden box and ratio meter: it tests protection, metering and transient-performance CTs and inductive VTs in the field, with an accuracy of ±0.5 % in ratio and ±5′ in phase, and delivers the complete report in PDF.
