TEST LABS

Current Impulse Generator

The HVEX Current Impulse Generator is designed for testing surge arresters, surge protective devices (SPDs), and their varistors. It applies current impulses and measures residual voltage across the test specimen, according to the specified test configuration. Operating range: • Impulse current: 1 kA to 350 kA. • Measured residual voltage: 0.5 kV to 250 kV. • Current waveforms: 4/10 µs, 8/20 µs, and 10/350 µs, depending on configuration. • Long-duration and line-discharge impulses for surge arresters, depending on configuration. Applications: • Characterization of surge arresters and SPDs under current impulses. • Residual-voltage measurement and evaluation of varistors used in these devices. • Development, quality-control, and performance tests according to the applicable requirements of IEC 60099-4 and IEC 61643-11 and the contracted test circuit. The system provides test-parameter control, data recording and analysis, and modular configuration for laboratories and manufacturers of surge arresters and SPDs.
