TEST LABS
High Current AC/DC Source and Thermal Cycle
The HVEX High Current Source is a modular system for alternating-current (AC) and direct-current (DC) testing, according to the specified configuration. It integrates HVEX Acquisition supervisory software, programmable control, data acquisition, and current and temperature monitoring, with test results and historical records. Applications include temperature-rise and thermal-cycling tests on cables, terminals, joints, connectors, disconnectors, circuit breakers, and fuses. The thermal test range is 0 to 250 °C, in continuous operation or timed thermal cycles. Current, temperature, and duration are selected for the test specimen and the applicable procedure; this range is distinct from the permissible ambient operating temperature. Thermal test references, selected according to the equipment and voltage class: • Cables and accessories: IEC 60502-4 and the methods of IEC 61442 for medium-voltage accessories; IEC 60840 for cable systems and accessories above 30 kV up to 150 kV. • Terminals, joints, and compression or mechanical connectors: IEC 61238-1-1 for applications up to 1 kV and IEC 61238-1-3 for applications above 1 kV up to 30 kV, within each part’s scope. • Disconnectors: IEC 60947-3 for low voltage; IEC 62271-102 and the common requirements of IEC 62271-1 above 1 kV. • Circuit breakers: IEC 60947-2 for low voltage; IEC 62271-100 and the common requirements of IEC 62271-1 above 1 kV. • Fuses: IEC 60269-1 for low voltage and IEC 60282-1 for high-voltage current-limiting fuses. System configuration and test procedures must follow the applicable edition of the selected standard, the materials, and the thermal limits of the equipment under test. These references identify test applications and do not constitute full product certification to every listed standard. Current and time control enables repeatable sequences, from timed tests to heating and cooling cycles. Temperature-point monitoring and integrated acquisition support analysis of cables, connections, and switchgear. The modular system can be configured for the laboratory and test specimen requirements.
